WCM have called up David De Gea as a last-minute replacement for the injured Michel Fabrizio in the for the Cinzano Rio Grand Prix this weekend. Fabrizio fractured his ankle in a crash at the Dutch TT less than a week ago and is currently seeing a specialist to determine the extent of the injury, with the team hopeful he will return to action at Sachsenring in a fortnight. “We're really not sure how long Michel will be out for at this stage but David De Gea is a competent deputy,” commented Team Manager Peter Clifford, who ran the Spaniard alongside Chris Burns on a two-stroke Yamaha for much of last season. “It is definitely a fracture and he is with the specialist right now. The hope is that he will be fit for Sachsenring but we'll have to wait and see.”
