| Harris WCM sign British rookie
Chris Burns |
Harris WCM have signed highly-rated British rookie Chris Burns
for their debut MotoGP effort in 2003. The newly-formed racing partnership
between rolling chassis manufacturers Harris and the former Red
Bull Yamaha squad run by Peter Clifford presented artist-impression
images of their prototype four-stroke machine at the end of November
and this week they exercised an option to sign the 22 year old,
who comes recommended by former GP star Niall McKenzie after some
outstanding performances in the British Superstock Championship.
`The option was running out and I can tell you I had some sleepless
nights waiting for the call from Peter Clifford,´ said Burns,
who contested three rounds of the 125cc World Championship as a
teenager back in 1997 as well as the British Grand Prix at Donington
in 1998. `I am obviously delighted at the news, it is the best New
Years present I have ever had, although I am under no illusions
about the size of the task – it will be very hard indeed.
